Google Play Game Services announced: cloud saves, multiplayer, achievements

Google has officially unveiled Google Play Game Services at its I/O 2013 developer conference today.

Google Play Game Services adds cloud saves, achievements and leaderboards for games on the Play Store.

The big news, however, is that the service is not only headed to Android and web, but also to the rival iOS platform, giving it a significant advantage over Apple’s Game Center service.

Google Play Game Services also promises lag-free multiplayer, with several top Android game developers already said to be implementing the feature into their games.

An Android update for Google Play Game Services will be available immediately for all devices running version 2.2 (FroYo) and higher.

1. Verifying your site with Google Webmaster Tools

Before Google Sites will generate a sitemap, you must verify your site with Google Webmaster Tools:

1. Sign in to Google Webmaster Tools  using the same account information you use to sign in to Google Sites.
2. Click "Add a site...", enter the base URL of your Google Site in the box that pops up, then click "Continue."
3. On the following page, select the radio button next to Add a meta tag to your site's home page.
4. Copy the meta tag (for example, <meta name="google-site-verification" content="z5mJLjVGtEe5qzCefW1pamxI7H46u19n4XnxEzgl1AU" />) from the Instructions box.
5. In a new browser window or tab, navigate to the Google Site you wish to verify. (You will need to go back to the Webmaster Tools page, so do not close it.)
6. Select Manage site from the "More actions" drop-down menu.
7. Select the General tab under the Site Setting area.
8. Paste the meta tag that you copied on the Google Webmasters Tools site in the box next to Google Webmaster Tools verification.
9. Click "Save changes."
10. Go back to the Webmaster Tools page where you copied the meta tag.
11. Click "Verify."

1. On your Webmaster Tools home page, select your site.

How To Add A Feedburner Reader Counter Widget

If you already have accumulated a good number of subscribers via Feed, 

now might be a good idea to let the rest of the world know that your site is worth following, and you can do this simply by adding a feed subscriber count widget into your Blogger.
There are two ways on how to go about this, one is by using Feedburner’s own default widget, and the other is by creating your own; we’ll be doing the former in today’s post, which is of course, free.
In order to do this, you’ll first have to log in to your Feedburner dashboard using your Google account detail. (If you still haven’t, you’ll be asked to create a Feedburner account or burn a feed first before proceeding.)
Click on the Publicize tab and then click on FeedCount located at the sidebar.
In this page, you can choose the style and the color scheme for your FeedCounter to better match your blog site’s theme.
Once you’re done choosing, click on Activate and it will generate the code you’ll use to embed the counter in your site. (Make sure that you also choose “Blogger” in the “Use as a widget in” drop-down list box).
Copy the HTML code provided in to your template.
And you’re done! Have fun watching your subscriber base increase as time goes by.

Final Cut Pro X 10.0.8 update

Apple released its Final Cut Pro X 10.0.8 update. It is 60% about fixing bugs, there are a few new features too. Although the NAB professional trade show is just around the corner, this isn’t a industry-shaking update.

From TV and film industry point of view, new features supporting ARRI ALEXA and Sony F5 and F55 cameras hint that Apple are interested in courting high-end full-time editors as well as the hundreds of thousands of creative people that use Final Cut Pro as part of a non-editing job.

Apple also added a pair of case studies to their Final Cut Pro X In Action page on their website. One shows how Final Cut is the right tool for journalists and reporters, the other covers an example ofmodern feature film workflow.

Bug fixes

The biggest news for the majority of Final Cut Pro users is that tricky graphics bug has been fixed.

A problem introduced by the 10.0.6 update was a fault that affected many important third-party plug-ins: random green and upside-down frames in renders. This was probably a side-effect of moving rendering from Mac CPUs to GPUs. This fault was not fixed in 10.0.7, but Apple says it is gone in 10.0.8.

Here are the rest of Apple’s release notes on the update with some commentary:

- Resolves performance issues that could occur with certain titles and effectsIn 10.06 and 10.0.7 some effects worked best when rendered by CPUs, so they were slower until they were optimised for GPUs in 10.0.8.

- Mono audio files in a surround project export with correct volume levels

- Drop zones no longer reset to the first frame of video after application restart

- Fixes a performance issue which resulted from selecting multiple ranges on a single clip

- Fixes an issue where the Play Around function did not work properly on certain clips when viewed through external video devices

New features

- Ability to use key commands to adjust Clip Appearance settings in the timeline
